CRANES
by Joseph Darlington
Twisting metal
Sky trellises lit
Red, like iron berries,
Girders hang, swing,
Carrying more work.

Forty tiny men below
One above, painting
Oscillations in air
A steel Spirograph
Of labour, dancing
Under red beams, nude
Pipes trembling.

Cranes grow cranes
Tall and wetly red.
